New Product!!
OK all, here is what I think will be the production model. Please note that you can disassemble it and turn the window
from where it is, to 90 degrees either side or 180 degrees, whatever suits you. I have chosen to use the SC-N compass
AKA Super tilt compass because the other model compass, that you and I are more familiar with is being phased out of
production. I will be supplying the compass module with the housing, and they will be fully assembled. Should your
compass fail you can easily replace the module. By the way the compass face glows in the dark if you leave it in the
light to charge.
Well Its Official, this compass is on the shelves at the vendors listed on the home page. I either shipped them or
delivered them on Monday November 24th

New production model
Original version previously posted here
It took me the better part of the three weeks to build the jigs and develop the programs to
go from cutting these compass housings out of a single piece of round stock to cutting
multiple pieces from a piece of flat bar Here you can see the bases being cut out (left), and
the caps (right, lower right).
On my prototype tape (Right)I removed the steel tab from the
end of the tape and crimped a Stainless steel Banding clip on
the end this helps give the end of the tape some weight and
prevents it from being sucked into the body, It also makes the
end easier to grab. These clips are pretty common offshore in
your gang box. I am carrying the production model these days
and haven't gotten around to doing it to my new tape.
Also if you are carrying an older Tape it may have been
assembled with the steel tab screwed to the shaft. The tab will
rust and bind up your tape. I suggest that you remove it. All my
new tapes are assembled with the tab on the inside of the roll
removed, to prevent this.
